I recently had a very heated discussing with a young man who was quite shocked to hear that another young man I know who is on the autism spectrum is able to drive and car and fully live an independent life. They felt that is was wrong that he was allowed to drive a car as in there eyes he could have a “funny turn” when driving. I tried to explain that there was no logic why this person should not be allowed to drive a car as he was in fact a safer driver that the person I was speaking to. Apart from his argument that the young man with autism could have a funny turn they could not give any other reason to support their argument.
