Another heart warming story that has emerged this Christmas is that of 11 year old Fynnjan Leach-Verhoeven. Fynnjan was Asperger's syndrome and has unveiled a festive video for his song which he hopes will become Christmas number one.
‘The Spirit of Christmas’ on 9 December, a song which Fynnan wrote himself, and with the help of family and friends was. The video features many of the hallmarks of a classic Christmas, including a singing choir, festive jumpers, lots of tinsel, and even a log fire.
The song has already raised the interest of the nation with Fynnjan been interview on BBC Radio 4, and on ITV 1’s Daybreak programe as well as on Channel 5. because of the increased interest the the song has odds of 50/1 to reach Christmas number one.
Although Fynnjan will be competing against the likes of this year’s X Factor winner and Susan Boyle, success would make him the youngest ever writer/performer to top the charts
Fynnjan is grateful for the support he received at his former school, Seer Green CE Primary, and will donate the proceeds from his single to help other people affected by autism to access appropriate support. The money raised will be split between the SEN unit of his former primary school, Nordoff Robbins and the NAS.
Speaking to Channel 5 News last week, Fynnjan said: “Not everyone has help at their school. I got a lot of help which helped get me on track to have a successful life. I wouldn’t have been able to do this single without help.”
Fynnjan’s mum, Su Verhoeven, said:
Fynnjan's such a sweet boy. He's always smiling and trying to do the right thing. When we first asked him about doing a single, he said he'd only do it if the money raised could help people with Asperger syndrome, like him. That just sums him up really, he's one of a kind.
Dave Boorman, the Head of Supporter Fundraising at the NAS said:
Fynnjan’s compassion and determination to use his musical skills to improve the lives of others is truly inspirational. He’s written a remarkable song and we’re humbled that he’s chosen to donate part of his proceeds to us. As a charity, the NAS relies on donations to continue to provide the support that people affected by autism need and so projects like this are absolutely vital.
There’s already a real buzz about Fynnjan’s single and I hope the autism community will get behind him and help him to reach his goal of being Christmas number one.”
